Planning a Disney Cruise Line vacation involves a lot of moving pieces — flights, hotels, luggage, getting to the port and, eventually, getting home.
One option that can make the transportation portion of your vacation much easier? Disney Cruise Line ground transportation.
Available for an additional fee, Disney Cruise Line offers airport and resort transfers on select itineraries, including transportation between Orlando International Airport (MCO), Walt Disney World Resort and Port Canaveral, as well as transportation between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Port Everglades for applicable sailings. Availability can vary by port and itinerary.
So, is it worth adding? Here are five reasons you may want to consider it.
1. You Don’t Have to Figure Out How to Get to the Port
One of the biggest advantages of booking Disney Cruise Line transportation is simply taking the transportation logistics off your plate.
Instead of figuring out whether to rent a car, call a rideshare, book a private transfer or arrange a shuttle, you can add Disney’s transportation to your cruise reservation and have a designated way to get from your airport or eligible resort location to the port.
For families — especially those traveling with young children, lots of luggage or a large group — having that plan already in place can make embarkation day feel much less stressful.
Disney Cruise Line currently offers round-trip airport transfers that can be booked through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app or your reservation, while one-way transfers can be added by contacting Disney Cruise Line.
2. It’s Especially Convenient When You’re Combining Walt Disney World and a Cruise
If you’re planning a Disney World + Disney Cruise Line vacation, this is one of the biggest reasons to consider Disney transportation.
For sailings from Port Canaveral, Disney Cruise Line offers transportation between Walt Disney World Resort hotels and the cruise terminal.
That means you can spend a few days at Walt Disney World, check out of your resort, and then let Disney handle the transportation to your cruise.
You don’t have to:
- Rent a car just for the transfer
- Figure out where to return a rental
- Arrange a rideshare with luggage and kids
- Coordinate a separate shuttle
- Worry about navigating to Port Canaveral yourself
And when the cruise is over, you can also arrange transportation back to Walt Disney World or Orlando International Airport.
It’s essentially one vacation with two Disney destinations — without having to figure out the middle portion yourself.
3. Airport-to-Port Transfers Can Make Travel Day Easier
Flying into Florida for your cruise? Disney Cruise Line transportation can connect your airport arrival with your cruise port on eligible itineraries.
For Port Canaveral, Disney offers transfers between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and the cruise terminal.
Port Canaveral is about an hour from MCO, depending on traffic, so having your transportation arranged ahead of time can be particularly appealing after a flight.
For Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Disney Cruise Line offers transfers between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and the cruise terminal on applicable sailings.
And if you’re staying at an eligible hotel near your port, Disney may also offer transportation options depending on the itinerary and hotel.
Just remember: Disney’s transportation is not available from every airport to every Disney Cruise Line port. For example, current information indicates that Disney does not offer ground transfers from Miami International Airport to Port Canaveral, and Walt Disney World-to-Port Everglades transportation is not currently offered.
4. The Luggage Convenience Can Be a HUGE Plus
Let’s be honest: luggage is one of the least magical parts of vacation travel.
You’ve got suitcases, carry-ons, kids’ bags, strollers, backpacks and whatever else your family somehow decided was necessary.
Using Disney Cruise Line transportation can help simplify that process.
For certain Disney Cruise Line transfers, guests can hand their luggage over as part of the transportation process rather than having to figure out the logistics of getting everything from the airport or resort to the cruise terminal themselves.
That’s especially appealing for families who don’t want to spend embarkation morning loading everyone and everything into a rental car or trying to coordinate multiple rides.
Less luggage juggling = more time getting excited about your cruise.
5. You Know Your Transportation Plan Before You Leave Home
There’s something to be said for having the transportation portion of your vacation already figured out.
Instead of landing and immediately wondering:
“Okay… how are we getting to the port?”
you’ve already arranged your transfer.
Disney Cruise Line offers several ground transportation options, including round-trip airport transfers, one-way transfers and private transfers on most itineraries.
That doesn’t necessarily make Disney transportation the cheapest option for every family — but for travelers who value simplicity, convenience and having fewer vacation logistics to coordinate, it can be worth considering.
Where Can You Use Disney Cruise Line Transportation?
This is the important part: DCL transportation isn’t available from every airport or cruise port.
For Florida cruises, the two big examples are:
Port Canaveral
Disney Cruise Line offers ground transportation between:
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)
- Walt Disney World Resort hotels
- Select participating hotels
- Port Canaveral
Port Canaveral is the primary Florida port to consider if you’re doing a Walt Disney World + Disney Cruise Line vacation.
Port Everglades — Fort Lauderdale
For applicable sailings from Fort Lauderdale, Disney Cruise Line offers transportation between:
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
- Port Everglades
Disney currently does not offer the same Walt Disney World-to-port transfer option for Port Everglades that it offers for Port Canaveral.
What About Miami?
This is where it gets important to check your specific sailing.
Disney Cruise Line does not currently offer the same standard Florida ground-transfer network from Miami International Airport (MIA) that it offers from MCO and FLL. If you’re sailing from a port that doesn’t have a DCL transfer option that works for your plans, you’ll want to arrange your own transportation.
Because transportation offerings can change, always check your specific cruise reservation before making your plans.
Sailing From Fort Lauderdale? Consider Brightline
If you’re sailing from Port Everglades and your vacation starts in Orlando, there’s another option worth knowing about — even though it isn’t Disney Cruise Line transportation.
Brightline connects Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, and Brightline specifically promotes its service as a way to get to and from cruise ports.
The Fort Lauderdale Brightline station is connected to Port Everglades via local transportation options, making it an alternative for guests who don’t want to drive from Orlando to South Florida. Brightline also has a cruise-focused transportation offering highlighting connections between its Fort Lauderdale station and Port Everglades.
This can be especially interesting for Florida families who are already in Orlando or who want to avoid renting a car for a Fort Lauderdale cruise.
Brightline also operates between Orlando and South Florida, with stations in Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
Just keep in mind: Brightline is not a Disney Cruise Line transfer. You’ll still need to arrange the final transportation between the Fort Lauderdale station and the cruise terminal.
So, Is Disney Cruise Line Transportation Worth It?
For some families, absolutely.
If you’re flying into Orlando for a Port Canaveral cruise, combining Walt Disney World with your sailing, or flying into Fort Lauderdale for a Port Everglades sailing, DCL transportation can be a convenient way to simplify one of the more complicated parts of your vacation.
It’s not necessarily the cheapest option for every traveler, so it’s worth comparing the cost with a rental car, rideshare or private transportation.
But if your priority is:
“I want to land, get to Disney, and let someone else worry about the driving.”
Disney Cruise Line transportation may be exactly what you’re looking for.
And if you’re sailing from Fort Lauderdale and starting your trip in Orlando, Brightline is another option worth putting on your transportation comparison list.
As always, transportation availability, eligible locations and pricing can change, so check your specific Disney Cruise Line reservation for the options available for your sailing.
