For years, Disney’s BoardWalk has been one of the most beautiful resort areas at Walt Disney World. With its prime location between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, stunning waterfront views, and nostalgic Atlantic City-inspired atmosphere, it should be one of the most vibrant destinations on property.
However, many guests have noticed a growing problem in recent years: vacant storefronts and closed entertainment venues have left parts of the BoardWalk feeling quieter than they once did.
That’s finally starting to change.
Disney recently announced several new experiences coming to Disney’s BoardWalk, bringing fresh dining, shopping, and entertainment options to an area that many fans have felt needed some attention.
A New Entertainment Venue: Hurly-Burly
Perhaps the biggest announcement is Hurly-Burly, a brand-new entertainment venue coming to the former Jellyrolls location.
During the day, Hurly-Burly will offer family-friendly activities including trivia, games, and interactive entertainment. In the evenings, the venue will transform into a 21-and-over destination featuring live music, coastal-inspired cocktails, and light bites. Disney describes it as a place where guests can relax and enjoy a variety of musical entertainment while taking in the BoardWalk atmosphere.
The announcement has already generated excitement among fans who were hoping Disney would maintain an adult-oriented nightlife option after Jellyrolls closed. Many online commenters have praised Disney for creating a space that serves both families during the day and adults at night.
Basin Expands to the BoardWalk
Disney also announced that Basin will open a new location at the BoardWalk.
The retailer, known for bath products, soaps, skincare items, and Disney-inspired fragrances, already operates locations at Disney Springs and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. While some fans have questioned whether another Basin location was necessary, the addition does help fill one of the BoardWalk’s long-vacant retail spaces.
A New Quick-Service Restaurant Is on the Way
The most intriguing announcement may actually be the one we know the least about.
Disney confirmed that a new quick-service dining location is coming to the BoardWalk, with additional details expected later this summer. While Disney hasn’t revealed the concept yet, many guests have long requested more casual dining options and additional seating in the area.
If executed well, this could become one of the most impactful additions to the BoardWalk experience.
Exactly What the BoardWalk Needed
While Disney’s BoardWalk has remained a popular resort destination thanks to favorites like the bakery, restaurants, and easy access to EPCOT, there has been no denying that several vacant locations have made portions of the area feel underutilized.
The addition of new entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences signals that Disney is investing in the BoardWalk’s future and working to restore some of the energy that made the district such a fan favorite in years past.
Will every announcement be a home run? That remains to be seen. But after years of empty storefronts and unanswered questions, it’s encouraging to see Disney finally filling these spaces and bringing new life back to the BoardWalk.
For guests staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, or anyone spending an evening around Crescent Lake, there will soon be even more reasons to stop, explore, and enjoy one of Walt Disney World’s most charming destinations.
