Unlike some Disneyland seasonal events, Plaza de la Familia is included with regular admission to Disney California Adventure. That means you don’t need to purchase a separate event ticket just to experience the celebration. But that doesn’t mean you should simply walk into the park and hope you stumble across everything. There are several experiences, entertainment offerings, and seasonal foods that are much easier to enjoy when you have a plan.
The Heart of Plaza de la Familia: The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia
One of the highlights is “The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate the Musical World of Coco!” This live entertainment experience brings the music and story of Coco to life through music, storytelling, and performances in Paradise Gardens.
If your family loves Coco, this is the kind of experience that can turn a regular park day into something much more memorable. Even if you aren’t a huge Coco fan, there is something special about the way Disney uses music and storytelling to celebrate family and the people we carry with us.
Don’t Skip the Mariachi Music
Music is a huge part of the Plaza de la Familia experience. You can enjoy live mariachi music at the Paradise Garden Bandstand, adding another layer to the atmosphere throughout Paradise Gardens.
This is also one of those experiences that makes Plaza de la Familia feel different from the typical Disneyland day. You’re not simply checking attractions off a list. You’re slowing down, listening to the music, taking in the decorations, and experiencing a celebration centered around family.
The Memory Wall Is One of the Most Meaningful Experiences
One of our favorite aspects of Plaza de la Familia is the Memory Wall. Guests can leave a note in memory of someone they love. This is a simple experience, but it can be incredibly meaningful.
For families traveling together, it can become a beautiful opportunity to talk about grandparents, relatives, friends, or other loved ones who are no longer with them. It also fits beautifully with the themes of Coco: remembering the people we love and recognizing that the bonds we create with them don’t simply disappear.
Next to the Memory Wall, there’s also a space filled with tables where guests can join in on family-friendly arts and crafts, including designing their own spirit guide or crafting traditional items!
Come Hungry: Plaza de la Familia Has Seasonal Food
Of course, this is Disneyland, so you can expect seasonal food and beverages to be part of the celebration. Paradise Garden Grill features limited-time offerings inspired by the season, including the Chilaquiles Carnitas Torta and Nuez Gelatina Cake in 2026. If you’re the type of Disneyland guest who plans vacations around food, Plaza de la Familia gives you another reason to explore Disney California Adventure beyond the attractions.
Our advice? Don’t make the mistake of treating the food as an afterthought. Seasonal Disneyland food can sell out, locations can have different operating schedules, and trying to fit everything into one day without a plan can leave you spending more time figuring out where to eat than actually enjoying your vacation.
Is Plaza de la Familia Worth Planning Your Disneyland Vacation Around?
Here’s where we would be strategic. We wouldn’t necessarily plan an entire Disneyland vacation solely around Plaza de la Familia. But if you’re already considering a Disneyland trip in the fall, I absolutely think it’s worth adding to your plans.
And this is where your dates matter. A fall Disneyland vacation can include:
- Plaza de la Familia
- Halloween Time
- Seasonal attractions and entertainment
- Halloween-themed food and treats
- Oogie Boogie Bash, if you purchase tickets for one of the separately ticketed nights
- Seasonal merchandise
- And, depending on your travel dates, the transition into the holiday season
The trick is figuring out which experiences are available during your specific dates and how to organize your park days so you’re not constantly backtracking.
The Biggest Mistake We See Families Make With Disneyland Planning
They try to plan the vacation around attractions.
They make a list of rides.
Then another list of restaurants.
