Meet the Disney Imagination, a brand-new Disney Cruise Line ship scheduled to begin sailing from Tokyo, Japan, in spring 2029.
The Disney Imagination will mark a major milestone for Disney Cruise Line as the first Disney cruise ship to sail from Japan, giving families another incredible way to experience Disney magic while exploring a new part of the world.
And if sailing aboard a brand-new Disney ship from Tokyo wasn’t already exciting enough, Disney has also revealed a familiar face who will be making a splash on the ship’s stern!

Disney Cruise Line Is Coming to Japan!
Beginning in spring 2029, the Disney Imagination will set sail from Tokyo, bringing the Disney Cruise Line experience to Japan for the first time.
The new ship is being created through a partnership between Disney and Oriental Land Co., Ltd., the company that owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort.
Disney and Oriental Land Co. already have a longstanding relationship through Tokyo Disney Resort, and this new collaboration will extend that Disney vacation experience to the sea.
For Disney fans, this opens up some pretty exciting vacation possibilities.
Imagine experiencing Tokyo, visiting Tokyo Disney Resort AND setting sail aboard a Disney Cruise during the same trip.

Meet the Disney Imagination
We officially have a name!
Disney Imagination will join Disney Cruise Line’s growing fleet when it begins welcoming guests in 2029.
And the name feels pretty fitting for a ship designed around everything Disney does best—creativity, storytelling, adventure and creating experiences that transport guests into another world.
While Disney still has plenty of details left to reveal about the ship itself, we already know guests can expect the immersive storytelling and family-focused experiences Disney Cruise Line is known for.
And we have a feeling there are going to be plenty of surprises revealed between now and 2029.
Ariel Is Heading to the Stern!
One of our favorite Disney Cruise Line traditions is seeing which Disney characters are chosen to appear on the stern of each ship.
For the Disney Imagination, that honor is going to Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid!
And she won’t be alone.
Ariel will be joined by Sebastian and other friends from under the sea as part of the ship’s stern design.
But there’s an adorable detail that makes this design even better.
Disney says Ariel will use her beloved dinglehopper to create the ship’s name!
For a character who has always been fascinated by exploring worlds beyond her own, Ariel feels like a pretty perfect choice for a ship that will take families on new adventures at sea.
We can’t wait to see the finished stern in person!
What Will Be Onboard the Disney Imagination?
There are still LOTS of Disney Imagination announcements to come, but Disney has given us an idea of the overall experience guests can expect.
